The term "accepted" in TurboTax is only an efile status.  When you look at the Tax Home in Online TurboTax, does it show your efile was accepted?  If so, it means the return was efiled in the proper format and met the requirements for the IRS to begin processing it.   It's not the same as "approved."    Some returns take longer to process depending on specific items in the return, such as certain credits, etc.

If your efile was accepted for processing, and the IRS has received your return and is processing it, you can't start over.   But you may be able to learn what the delay is.

What message is shown when you use the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool?

https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund

Does it say has been received and is "still being processed?"   Or does it say anything else; i.e., any additional message?

If the IRS WMR tool says it's still being processed,  here's how you can phone the IRS to see if they can give you any information on what is causing the delay.

IRS:  800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.   The steps may have changed slightly for 2024, but the principle is the same:

  • First choose your language.  Then listen to each menu before making the selection.
  • Then press 2 for "personal income tax".
  • Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
  • Then press 3 "for all other questions."
  • Then press 2 "for all other questions."
  • It may then ask for your SSN, but do not enter it.  Just wait.    If it asks for SSN a second time, still do not enter it.
  • Then it will get "tired", and you'll get another menu.  Choose 2 for "personal".
  • Then in the next menu choose 4 for "all other inquiries", and it should transfer you to an agent but expect a long wait.
  • I usually use a speakerphone so I can work on something else while waiting.
