what is the 1099-nec form and where do i get it from

Starting in the 2020 tax year, the IRS has reintroduced Form 1099-NEC as the new way to report self-employment income instead of Form 1099-MISC as traditionally had been used. This form would have been sent to you by a business that paid you $600 or more as an independent contractor. 

If you are self-employed, you should have received any 1099-NEC forms by January 31st.
