In 2023, I sold concert tickets for a few thousand dollars profit. Do I need to report the sales and if so, where?

Yes, you do need to report that income. You will look for the Self-employed income and expenses option and work through that section. You will be asked for information about your business, as that is what you are considered to have by the IRS if you are earning money for services provided or products sold.

 

 

You want to indicate that you have inventory, as your tickets will be considered purchases that involve inventory:

 

 

 

You will be asked to enter the cost of your beginning inventory of tickets, your ticket purchases and ending inventory cost. Your cost of goods sold will be the beginning inventory, plus purchases less ending inventory. You can also enter any other expenses that are ordinary and necessary for your ticket sales business.
