If your child is your dependent, here are the Dependent Filing Requirements.

If they received a 1099-NEC reporting $2,000, this would require them to file a tax return, since their gross income is over $1,250. The 1099-NEC normally indicates 'Self Employment Income', which is reported on Schedule C.
