I work for the same company as last year but my employer's name has changed due to being bought out. Is this considered a new employer or the same?

No, it's not considered a new employer, but it's likely that you received two W-2 forms instead of one because of the name change. A different EIN is likely too.

If you received two W-2 forms, you have to enter both of them in your tax return.
