The request for an extension is automatic, assuming that you file the request by the due date (April 18 this year), and it's free through TurboTax.

You have nothing to lose by filing an extension immediately. Please retain proof that you have filed, in case the IRS can't find your form 4868.

After my extension was rejected I tried again and paid the IRS a partial payment and got a confirmation number.Am I all done since I'm within the 5 day extension window?
