I lived in TX when I received a signing bonus from a CA company in May. I moved to CA on 7/6 to start the new job. Shall I allocate the signing bonus to CA income?

I assume I need file tax in CA as part-time resident.

Yes, since the income is California-sourced, you should still allocate the income to California even though you didn't relocate there until July. Now that you are a California resident, all of your income from any location is subject to California tax.

For 2023, you would file as a part-year resident. See here for more information from California. TurboTax will prepare the correct forms based on your entries.

As a part-year resident, you pay tax on:

  • All worldwide income received while a California resident
  • Income from California sources while you were a nonresident
