I have relocated to the United Kingdom

I am curious what the tax implications are for working in another country. My start date will be 12/15/2022.

Will I have to claim this income and pay taxes twice? Also, if my first paycheck is in Jan 2023 would this be on next years taxes?

Hi ShaunoftheUK !

We are excited for your new adventure with the relocation and UK sounds like a lot of fun and amazing! As a US citizens/ resident aliens, we must report the worldwide income. However, you can apply for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion Exclusion and Foreign Tax Credit to avoid paying tax twice.

Here is the resources you can use when filing your tax:

If your first paycheck is in Jan 2023, you will file the foreign income and tax credit in 2024 for tax year of 2023. If you got the paycheck on the last day of 2022, you will still need to include it in your 2022 tax return.

I hope this information is helpful! Again, you may always contact us if you have any further questions.
