There are a lot of possible reasons for rejections, and you didn't specify one. If you name the rejection error code/message, someone may be able to comment to help you either resubmit the efile or to file on paper in the mail.

Secondly, is this a married joint return or a single taxpayer?

Thirdly, are you due a Federal refund, or do you owe taxes due? If you are sure you are getting a Federal refund, there is no penalty for a late Federal return.
