I have been separated for two years, but not legally or on paper. I have also owned my own home for two years. Last year I filed head of household. Is this an option?

Why isn't head of household an option? what is next best option?

To file as head of household you must meet certain criteria explained here.

To file as head of household, you must:

Revisit the questions in the Personal profile (TurboTax Online) or Personal Info (TurboTax Desktop) section by selecting Edit next to your name, your dependent and your filing Status to review/answer any questions.

TurboTax will let you know if your situation qualifies for Head of Household. If you are trying to select a different filing status than what is recommended, you need to check the box Change my filing status when reviewing your filing status.
