I got married on June 23rd 2016, but we never lived together until September. Until then I was the head of the household. Do I still file tax as married?

I was working full-time until August. From September I pay 1/2 of the rent and family expense, and pay my own health insurance.  Who is the head of the house hold? Do I still file as married?

You file according to your marital status on December 31.  So you can either file a joint return with your spouse (married filing jointly) or you and your spouse can each file a separate return ( married filing separately).

Joint filing usually has the lowest tax or largest refund, even if one spouse doesn't work or your incomes are very different.

You don't qualify to file as head of household.
