I earned money as a Lyft driver, but did not earn enough to obtain a 1099. I am not clear on how to file.

I do not have federal id number for Lyft. I am considered self-employed.

If you earned less than $600 for this activity, you could report the income as Other Income on line 21 of your tax return. Self Employment Tax is computed on income of $600 and above.

  • First, go to Federal Taxes and select Wages and Income.
  • Scroll down to Less Common Income
  • Choose the last item, Miscellaneous Income
  • On Let's Work on Any Miscellaneous Income choose the last selection, Other reportable income.

If you want to report this income as a business, you would need to upgrade to Home & Business.
