I do not want to upgrade to turbo tax deluxe

The Free Edition is for very simple returns.   If you have items in your return that are not covered by the Free Edition, you would have to upgrade.

Simple tax situations covered in TurboTax Free Edition:

  • W-2 income
  • Limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV
  • Claiming the standard deduction
  • Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC)
  • Child tax credits

Situations not covered in TurboTax Free Edition include:

  • Itemized deductions
  • Business or 1099-MISC income
  • Stock sales
  • Rental property income
  • Credits, deductions and income reported on schedules 1-6, such as the Student Loan Interest Deduction

-----------------------------------

You might try TurboTax Freedom Edition: TurboTax Freedom Edition, is based on your income (AGI $34,000 or less) or if you are Active Duty Military in 2018 (AGI of $66,000 or less). If you qualify for free federal filing, you also qualify for Free State filing
