Triggering the upgrade message might have to do with Form 8889. Form 8889 may have carried over from a prior year when you had and HSA so you may need to delete the form if you no longer made (or your employer made) contributions or took any distributions from your HSA.
If you took distributions from your HSA then the form is still required and the Deluxe version would be needed.
Form 8889 would also be required if you included amounts in income because you were no longer an eligible individual during the testing period, or you acquired an interest in an HSA because of the death of the account beneficiary.
