I can not enter any data in to form 4852 do I need to do something first?

I need to correct the problem with the 1099-R, so I need to fill out a form 4852. I’m able to open the form inside of TurboTax, but I can’t type anything into it. Not my name. My so security number or any of the information I need to fill out the form. How do you do this?

There is an option to enter a substitute Form 1099-R in TurboTax that will generate the Form 4852 as follows:

  1. Go to the personal income section of TurboTax
  2. Find the Retirement Plans and Social Security menu option
  3. Start or Update IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
  4. Choose Add Another 1099-R
  5. Choose I'll type it in myself
  6. On the screen that says Tell Us Which 1099-R You Have choose I need to prepare a Substitute 1099-R

Enter the Form 1099-R data and later you will see a screen that says Create a Substitute Form on which there is an option to fill out Form 4852, choose that option, you will be asked to enter an explanation and Form 4852 will be populated:
