I am trying to file an extension but am only getting options to pay by April 15th without an explanation. Why is this?

The extension is only an extension to file your tax return - it is not an extension to pay.   If you owe tax, the tax needs to be paid today to avoid any interest and possibly penalties.  

There is no fee to file an extension.  File an extension by April 15, 2024, and have until October 15, 2024, to finish your taxes.   It is an extension to file - not an extension to pay your taxes; the bill is still due by 04/15/24 even if you file the extension.
