I am late in filing my taxes for the year of 2022. Can I still have an installment agreement using a 9465 form?

I'm not sure!  Your individual tax situation will be considered to determine if a payment plan is appropriate.

The plan may require:

  • Full payment,
  • A short-term payment plan (paying in 180 days or less) or
  • A long-term payment plan (installment agreement) (paying monthly).

If you want to apply for an installment agreement,

  • I suggest you file both your 2022 and 2023 tax returns.
  • Pay as much as you can.
  • Then make the agreement for both years.
  • You will not only have to pay the agreed upon back taxes.
  • Your agreement will be revoked if you don't keep up to date with your current taxes.

If you have an existing installment agreement you should contact the IRS immediately.

  • You can call toll-free at 800-829-1040 or contact a Taxpayer Assistance Center Local IRS Office.

See a sample of FORM 9465.
