To import a 1099, you need to go to the section of TurboTax where you need to enter the form. See below for more information on importing 1099's and which types can be imported into TurboTax. Then follow the onscreen instructions to complete the import.
The import feature works well. I found it is important not to blindly import everything, as at one of my institutions I have visibility to someone else's accounts. So, you may need to deselect (or select) the proper files you want to import, otherwise, it is more cumbersome to delete them from Turbotax. Some institutions you are not importing by an account number, only by your name. My TDA account is based only on a particular account number when asked to import, so that one imports with less scrutiny on my part.
