You should keep copies of all your tax returns, no matter who does them for you.

In the future, if you can't get copies of your returns, you can get Transcripts from the IRS (for free) - these are copies of your tax data without all the lines, boxes, and shading.

I strongly encourage you to do this before the next tax season (or even now), so that you are not at the mercy of your friend's mother's cousin-once-removed in getting data that belongs to you.
