How do I file federal tax return only

If you are still working on your return, you can skip the state and file your Federal. The program will prompt you to do your state, but you can refuse.

If you have done your state return already, but don't want to file it, you will need to delete your state in order to pay for and file the federal by itself.

To do that click on State, then Your State Returns. Click the little trash can to the right of your state return.
