How do I claim interest from spouse’s life insurance

If you receive interest on a life insurance policy, you can report it in your Federal return as if you had received a 1099-INT.

Enter Interest without 1099-INT:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on Federal tab.
  3. Click on Wages & Income.
  4. Click on Edit/Add next to Investments and Savings (1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, Crypto)
  5. Enter a different way.
  6. Click on Interest box, then Continue.
  7. Type it myself.
  8. Enter Payer's name.
  9. Enter amount of Interest in Box 1, then Continue.
  10. Answer Do any of these uncommon situations apply?, then Continue.

I'm very sorry for your loss.
