How can I use TurboTax and make sure it does NOT file?

We had our taxes for 2016 prepared and filed by an accountant, but we also bought TurboTax for this year because we wanted to see if we got the same results if we did it ourselves, with next year in mind. We also wanted to see how our taxes changed under different circumstances. But since we've already filed, we want to make sure TurboTax doesn't send the IRS another filing. Is there any way we can disable the filing feature?

First, the IRS would not accept a second electronic filing as the system would reject your already used SSN's.

Now, to your question, there is no way to "disable" the filing feature of TurboTax.   But, it would be extremely difficult to accidentally file a return.  There are several different sections of TurboTax (Personal Info, Federal taxes, State taxes, Review, and File).  Inside the File section, there are several screens were you would need to enter information such as bank accounts, sign documents, enter your AGI for filing, and finally a screen with Transmit returns.  If you stay out of the File section as there is no reason for you to enter any of that information as it doesn't affect your test return, then you will not have any problems with accidentally filing another return.
