We are married filing jointly, under 55, and had a high deductible family coverage all year. My husband and I each had an HSA and between the accounts we maxed out our contribution ($8550). My question is on the generation of row 6 on the form. After reading the guidance, I understand that we can mutually agree on how to split that line, but I can't figure out how to change it within TurboTax.
I contributed $2913 and the amount on line 6 on the form using TurboTax is $2,120 (spouse says $6430 so the total looks correct). Even If I change my spouses personal contributions to zero in the software (W2 contributions left), it still says I had an over contribution of $793 (difference between $2913 and $2120) that I need to fix by filing deadline. If I go in and add this $793 to his contributions and neither of us have an over contribution. I can theoretically go and remove $793 from my HSA and add $793 to his HSA but that seems silly. Why isn't that row adjusting in the software (using online version)?
Thanks in advance!
