For the recent 2023 tax year, we elected to use the Turbo Tax full service and were very satisfied. During the review, questions came up about our 2022 return. We did the 2022 restrun ourselves and the question from the Turbo Tax Export had to do with the high amount listed on line 4b of our 2022 1040. Since neither one of us has an IRA distribution that year, we are wondering how the number in 4b was derived. Was it a number that we would have installed ourselves or would it have been a calculated number based upon the Turbo Tax interview?
Thank you

TurboTax will only fill out line 4 on Form 1040 if you entered a Form 1099-R in the retirement section.
"You should receive a Form 1099-R showing the total amount of any distribution from your IRA before income tax or other deductions were withheld. This amount should be shown in box 1 of Form 1099-R. Unless otherwise noted in the line 4a and 4b instructions, an IRA includes a traditional IRA, Roth IRA, simplified employee pension (SEP) IRA, and a savings incentive match plan for employees (SIMPLE) IRA" (Form 1040 line 4 instructions)
