Estate Income Tax form 1041

I am filing 1041 for a 2 family home. After my moms death we continued to collect rent on 1 of the 2 units. The 2nd unit was her primary apartment-no rents.

In preparation to settle the estate we:

hired someone to paint the non-rental apartment

exterminated the basement unit and outside perimeter

paid a company to remove an oil tank (very expensive)

continued to pay utilities for entire house (not just the rental)

My question :

Do I report everything including non rental portion on the Estate 1041 rental expenses section or do I separate rental expenses vs non rental expenses. if yes, where are the overall home expenses captured?

You need to separate the rental expenses from the non-rental expenses.

You can also deduct any expenses, ordinary and necessary, to preserve estate property.
