EE Savings Bond Redemption INT value

I Cashed in several EE bonds that had reached maturity for a total off $15,000.00. Since these were EE bonds the price paid was 1/2 the face value. But the 1099-INT shows the total face value ($15,000.00). However 1/2 of the $15000 was paid by me when purchasing the EE bonds. Am I misunderstanding something about EE bonds?
