Statutory Employees are paid on Form 1099-NEC, not a W-2.
If you received a W-2, you are considered an employee, not Self-Employed.
Did you switch sponsors? (Broker or something else?)
Did they use the wrong form?
Statutory employees receive a W-2 from their employer, who checks off Box 13. They do not receive Form 1099-as this document is sent to independent contractors. If Box 13 is not checked you are not a statutory employee and no deduction is allowed for your job related expenses.
if box 13 is checked, you must link the W-2 to schedule C. It is on schedule c that you take your deduction for vehicle and other business expenses. You do not use form 2106
