my wife and i got married in the year 2018. Does this affect my tax return?

Yes. For one thing, neither of you can file as single anymore. Your choices are Married Filing Jointly and Married Filing Separately. You will have a greater income so certain credits may be phased out. You are jointly liable for each others tax situations if you file jointly.
