No, you can either amend your tax return, or correct it to change the filing status.

If you have already e-filed your tax return, and it was accepted, you have to amend your tax return to change your filing status. Follow this link to get started on an amended tax return.

If you haven't e-filed your tax return yet, you can just change your filing status and provide basic information about your spouse. Here's how to do that:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
  2. Select My Info, or Personal Info.
  3. Select the down arrow to the right of your name.
  4. Select Edit, then Continue.
  5. Continue until you get to About your household.
  6. Select Married, and Plan to file separately.
  7. Keep going and the program will ask about their name, Social Security number, etc.
