I'm using desktop TT Premier 2024.
There's an option to import Form 1099-R from various financial institutions (mine is unavailable), or enter manually. BUT I cannot see any option to upload a pdf (that I scanned) of my 1099-R from my computer!
How do I upload a pdf of my 1099-R from my computer?
Thanks

I'm surprised that you are saying manual entry is faster than uploading a pdf.
I said that manual entry is a lot faster than trying to upload a PDF that TurboTax doesn't support.

Why does TT support upload of a W2 pdf but not a 1099-R pdf?
TurboTax does not publish the reasons for their design decisions. My guess is that one factor is that W-2s are a lot more common than 1099-Rs.
There is no way to upload a 1099-R from a PDF. Enter it manually. It will only take a couple of minutes. Manual entry will be a lot faster and easier than trying to find a way to import it from a PDF.
I uploaded my W-2 pdf and it was super-fast (much faster than manual entry) and error-free.

CHAMP, thanks a lot for helping out. I entered the 1099-R forms by hand as you suggested.
While you are correct with your bird in the hand scenario, it’s unfortunate that Intuit chose not to allow direct import of PDFs for TT desktop since that would limit data entry errors which are common with manual entry. Would also limit security problems associated with online import.
Since this is my first year using TT desktop, I actually started online before making the decision. When I logged into desktop, it imported what I’d done online including the data from PDF imports of 1099s. I don’t know how it would work with individual 1099 imports but using online as an interface for importing PDFs before starting with desktop saves a lot of time; especially since desktop doesn’t even let you duplicate 1099 issuers (e.g., when you get a new account type at the same institution).
SkyG,
Wait, are you saying that TT online allows importing of PDFs or JPEGs of scanned 1099-R from the computer hard drive (as opposed to importing from financial institution)? If so, any downsides/gotchas to getting started with TT online to take advantage of PDF imports capability, then switching TT desktop, as you suggest?
thank you - i did spend some time trying to find an import option - i have 4 to enter, and i always worry about making an error w/ my typing - but now i know i will just have to be extra careful when entering manually...
