Can't open documents, says I need Administrator rights

Trying to open documents on the intuit webpage for previous years tax returns, and when I click on it, it says I need administrator rights. I have no idea how to fix this and I'm using a Mac.

Can't open documents, says I need Administrator rights

Rights (privileges) on a computer determine the tasks a user can perform and how much control they have. If you are using your own computer you should have administrator rights.

To view your rights on Mac OS X:

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
  2. In the System Preferences window, select Users & Groups.
  3. Select your user account and view the right panel. If Allow user to administer this computer isn't checked, you don't have admin rights.

If you want to check the box but can't because it's grayed out, you'll either need to log on as an administrator or ask a user with admin rights for assistance. For more info, refer to your computer's Mac Help or Apple's support website.

Question is did you ever setup an administrator account? If you didn't, you may be able to reboot and sign in again. If you cannot open the file, then ownership of a folder and or file may be the problem. See if you can copy the file onto your desktop or another folder. Try to open the file in the new location.
