Can i waive the tax penalty for not having Health Insurace if i have lived in Europe the past 5 years as U.S citizen but still working on a U.S installation?

If you have lived more than 330 days or more outside the U.S., you can be exempted from the ACA penalty.

In TurboTax, revisit the Health Insurance section.

  • On the page which asks Did you all have health insurance coverage, click on I'll pick who had it and which months (see attached screenshot 1)
  • On the next page, check the months you had insurance leaving blank the months you did not have insurance and Continue
  • On the next page titled Did anyone have a situation that waives the tax penalty for being uninsured? put a check mark at Spent more than 330 days or more outside the U.S. (see attached screenshot 2)
  • On the next page, check the months or part-months for which you were outside the U.S.
  • The penalty for these months will be waived.
