Possibly, if they can match one of these two criteria.
To be a qualifying child:
- Are they related to you?
- Do they qualify for the child age test?
- your child must be younger than you and
- either younger than 19 years old at the end of the year or
- be a "student" younger than 24 years old as of the end of the calendar year.”
- Do they live with you? Your child must live with you for more than half the year, but several exceptions apply.
- Do you financially support them? Your child may have a job, but they cannot provide more than half of their own support.
The second alternative is to be a dependent relative. In this case they must be:
- They are not claimed as dependent by anyone else.
- They are US citizens.
- They live with you? They must live at your residence all year.
- They made less than $4,400 in 2022?
- You must provide more than half of your relative’s total support each year.

If they don't match all of the criteria in one of these alternatives, they cannot be claimed AS A DEPENDENT.
