1099-NEC

I am filling out a 1099-NEC for someone who started the season using her own name, then acquired a different business name; do i need to file two separate 1099-NEC's?  Thank you!

1099-NEC

It depends.

If your contractor notified you when she acquired the business by timely submitting a new form W-9 and you made the subsequent payments to that business name, then you should issue 2 separate forms 1099-NEC, one in her name and one in her business name.

If you made out the checks only to her, then you should only issue one form 1099-NEC in her own name.
