1099-misc for publishing royalties

Hi: I received a 1099-Misc from a publisher for a book i wrote in 2023. Turbotax prompted me to select the business I already created for writing, but is now prompting me to complete a Schedule E worksheet and is prompting me to complete the section for rental property...how do I bypass that?

You may need to return to the 1099-MISC topic and review your entries. The royalties should have been reported in Box 2, which prompts TurboTax to ask you the source of the royalties. The second choice is appropriate for book royalties. On the next page, check the Schedule C writing business. That should be the last question for 1099-MISC.

Now go to Self-Employment (Schedule C), select Edit/Update beside the writing business and follow the interview. FYI: business code is 711510 for writers.

TurboTax should not ask about Schedule E if you have reported this income for a self-employed business.

It appears that once a schedule E has been accidentally started in the federal filing, even deleting and recreating the 1099 that initiated it doesn't remove it. You have to search for "forms" and find the schedule E and delete it from the list of items.
