1099-G for non resident alien

Hello,

I file 1040NR form. I am an Indian citizen on F1 student in USA. Indian citizens are allowed to take some standard deduction (it was 6300 till 2016 and its around 12K from 2017). Thats the only standard deduction I have claimed in my previous tax forms. I have received 1099-G for my state tax refund for year 2018. Do I need to include that in my 2019 tax form.

As far as I know 1099-g for state tax refund comes in picture, if I claim itemized deduction in previous year tax form. I have never claimed any kind of special deductions just the India-US tax treaty every year. Please let me know if I need to include the 1099-G in this year tax filing.

No, you do not have to claim the state refund because you did not itemize your deductions on your 2018 tax return.
