I know health insurance is not considered a required fee for the 1098T, but it was still paid to the school as part of my bill. Because the 1098T is not including the charge for health insurance in Box 1, the amount in box 1 is lower than what was actually paid to the school, meaning that the “income” I received from my scholarship is getting calculated as being higher than what I actually received—I didn’t actually receive this portion of the money because it automatically went towards health insurance. Can I/should I add the amount that was paid for health insurance where it says “this is not what I paid to the school”?
