You can coordinate with your adult child for a percentage on your return + the percentage on their return that is not greater than 100%.

Then on the next page, it will want you to divide the premium payments made on the policy between you and other person on the policy. In some cases people split it 50-50. The IRS will compare the two returns and be sure that not more than 100% is claimed between them. You will want to coordinate with the other person on your policy. If together you claim more than 100% of the premiums it will slow down the processing of both returns. You will need to select the same percentage for all 3 categories, for a given time period. You can claim 100%, as long as your adult child claims 0.
