My 24 year old son needed to be on my marketplace health insurance plan for 6 months of 2024 . My 1095A form reflects that. I don’t claim him as a dependent since he makes his own income. He is doing his taxes and says he needs to report the 1095 a.
I told him I need to on my taxes, but do I also need to claim him as a dependent too?
Thanks

No, you don’t claim your son as your dependent because you shared a marketplace health insurance policy. Both of you will enter a copy of Form1095-A on your tax returns and you will indicate that you shared the policy with someone that isn’t on your tax return. TurboTax will ask you questions about if the policy was shared with someone and how to allocate the costs and credit.
The percentages that you should enter for your premium, your SLCSP, and your advanced payment should be an amount that you and the person you share it with agree on. It could be 50/50 or another amount. Make sure you are in agreement and that the percentages on both tax returns add up to 100% together.
TurboTax will calculate the information that should be on your return based on your answers.

Thank you for your answer! I was the one who purchased the plan, so I should get the credit. Can he put 0% as his contribution?
Yes. You can enter 100% for your premium, your SLCSP, and your advanced payment, and he should enter 0% for those items on his tax return.
To enter your health insurance reported on Form 1095-A refer to the TurboTax Help article Where do I enter my 1095-A?
