Would I not be better off itemizing with mortgage tax, 2nd mortgage tax, car tax, teacher expenses than Standard. It won't allow me to change to itemized

TurboTax will suggest you switch to itemized deductions once your deductions exceed the standard.  I suggest you make sure you have made all of your entries for expenses first.

If you have done that, and want to manually switch now, you can do so. Please verify the amount of itemized deductions does actually exceed the standard before filing your tax return.  Sometimes, certain deductions like state income taxes are limited, and it turns out the standard deduction is unexpectedly better.

Here's how, from How do I change from the standard deduction to itemized (or vice-versa)?

  1. "Go to the screen: Based on what you told us, [either Standard Deduction or Itemizing deductions] is right for you, and select Change my deduction. (Instead of using the link, you can also manually navigate to Federal > Deductions & credits > Continue > If applicable, continue through retirement summaries> Now you will arrive at Itemizing/ standard deduction summary screen.)
  2. On the Which deduction do you want to take this year? popup, you'll see the dollar value of each deduction type.
  3. Select the type of deduction you want and select Continue twice."
