Because code DD amounts are not included in the amount in box 1 of your W-2, you do not get a deduction on your individual tax return for this HSA contribution since it's money that you will never have paid taxes on in the first place.  If this employer did not show the pass-through amount with code W in box 12 of your W-2, in the HSA section indicate that you put money into an HSA, answer Yes when TurboTax asks if your employer told you about other contributions, then enter the HSA contribution amount in the box labeled Employer and payroll contributions not reported in box 12 of your W-2.  This will result in the contribution appearing on Form 8889 line 9.

(It seems that the employer should have reported the HSA contribution portion with code W, not code DD:  https://www.irs.gov/affordable-care-act/form-w-2-reporting-of-employer-sponsored-health-coverage)

Code DD in Box 12 on your W-2 designates your employer-sponsored healthcare.  It will be entered when you import/manually type in your W-2.

To enter/edit W-2:

1. Open your return (or continue if open).

2. Type “W-2” OR “W2” (lower-case works too) in Search box (upper right-hand corner of the screen)

3. Click on “Jump to W-2” link.

4. Answer screen interview prompts.

An HSA is designated on your W-2 as a Code W.

To enter/edit HSA:

1. Open your return (or continue if open).

2. Type “HSA” (lower-case works too) in Search box (upper right-hand corner of the screen)

3. Click on “Jump to HSA” link.

4. Answer screen interview prompts.

when the HSA contribution is part of a premium pass through, such as Federal Government as employer, DD includes both health insurance premium and HSA contribution.
