Tuition Expense

I do my adult daughter's taxes.  I recorded the tuition expense from Box 1 on her 1098T ($8649.00) - just as years past.  This year, she received a scholarship of $1424 as indicated in Box 5 of the 1098T.  Turbo tax now tells me she is not eligible for a deduction or credit because 1) scholarship exceeded the expense, or 2) there were no net qualified education expenses.  Neither seems appropriate.  Every year she has received some deduction/credit for her tuition/book expense.  The only difference this year was the small scholarship amount.  Was there a change in the tax law?

Tuition Expense

No, no new tax changes.

The Education section can be finicky.

Please enter her personal information first, then income then 1099-Q if you have one, and then the 1098-T.

Don't import the 1098-T, type it in by hand.

Go through the education interview section entirely and repeat if necessary.
