Trying to determine residency date for tax purposes. Purchased a second home on 9/30/2016, but did not complete declaration of domicile until 2/7/2017.

Residency rules vary from state to state. For example, if you spend more than a certain number of days in some states, you're considered a resident whether it makes sense to you or not.
