Solar tax credit/new roof

I've read some of the questions related to this topic, but I have not seen a clear answer. And my situation is a bit odd - I replaced the roof (shingles) at the end of 2021 in preparation for adding solar panels. But the panels were not installed until this month (it took time to get permits, inspections etc.). So I will be taking the federal tax credit next year (for 2022) on the solar panels. But can I take a credit for 2021 for the roof replacement in preparation for adding the panels?

Thanks,

No, replacing the roof on its own would not qualify for an energy credit if traditional roofing materials were used.

If the shingles were replaced with solar tiles or solar shingles that also serve as solar collectors, then they might qualify for an energy credit.
