Short Term Rental Expenses more than Income

We placed our short term rental into use at the end of November, so do not have much rental income for 2023.  However, we bought all of our supplies in 2023.  Can we report them as expenses in 2024 when we have more income?  I'm afraid having a large loss will trigger an audit.   Thank you.

No, if you purchased the items and placed them in service in 2023, then they should be claimed on the 2023 tax return.

Do not worry about whether you have a large loss for 2023.  That would be normal for a new rental property just starting at the end of the year.
