Scholarly writing pays little, but I use a room of our house as an office. Is there a way around the TurboTax cost to take the deduction?

My spouse and I both write, although teaching is our primary job. We share an office in our house.

If you are asking if there is a way to file your return without being required to upgrade to a higher version of TurboTax to claim your home office, then your only choice would be to purchase a lower cost version of the CD/downloaded version of TurboTax.  All CD/downloaded versions have access to all the tax forms.  The difference is in the amount of guidance you are given along the way.
