Recovery Rebate

Friend has 3 kids.  One is a newborn baby born in 2020.  Other child is over 17 now.  She received a stimulus for herself and two children (the one who is now 17).  Now that she is trying to add her baby to get the stimulus, the computer thinks she has already gotten it.  It will not give her the additional $1100 since the other child has turned 17.  Am i right that she is eligible for this?  How does she enter this to get the rebate?  We dont want to lie in case they check the stimulus amount we are entering.  HELP

If the dependent is 17, then there would be no stimulus available for her.

So from what you said, she has herself and two children under the age of 17. If so, then her total stimulus would be $4,000. That is $1,200 for herself for the first payment, and $500 for each of two kids, then another $600 for herself and $600 for each of two children for the second payment.

So, if she received a total of $4,000 already, there would be no stimulus payment left when she files her 2020 tax return.

The 17 year old was under 17 on 2018 and 2019 return.  So he qualified for the stimulus along with her other child.  Now that she has the new baby, I thought she could get $1100.  They are shorting her for one of her kids.  Yes he is 17 now but he qualified back from those years.  I dont understand

The stimulus payment is based on your tax return for 2020. The payments you received were  an advance based on the information you entered on your 2019 tax return, sort of like a deposit.

So, the IRS gave you $4,000, assuming you would report the same number of dependents on your 2020 return as you reported in 2019. Which is what happened, the only difference being that you changed one dependent for another one.

So, based on your tax return for 2020, you received the correct amount of stimulus and no additional payment is due you.
