You can take the amount for materials only, not for labor.

 

Common major purchases include:

  • Vehicles
  • Off-road vehicle

You can also include:

  • Aircraft
  • Boats
  • Mobile homes
  • Manufactured housing
  • Building materials for major home improvements

note that there is a $10,00 limit on the deduction for taxes. this is the total of sales tax or state income tax (one or the other  - not both) plus real estate taxes paid and personal property taxes paid.  even foreign taxes if you don't take the credit.              the limit is $5,000 if married filing separately.
