I am an Iowa resident and sold 25 acres of property in Missouri this past year. Will I pay capital gains on this in both Missouri and Iowa (Iowa has a higher tax rate)?

Yes, you will be liable for taxes in Missouri. There is no reciprocity between the states. However, Iowa does offer a credit.

Use form IA 130 to compute the Out-of-State Tax Credit. Nonresidents of Iowa cannot claim this credit. Part-year residents of Iowa may claim this credit only if the income they earned during that part of the year that they were Iowa residents was also taxed by another state or country.
