If I don't own the property which I call primary residence, but I own a property where I only stay a few days a year, and it's not rented out, can I claim this property as my second home for tax purposes even though I don't own my primary home?
yes, you can deduct the real estate taxes and mortgage interest subject to their limitations on schedule A along with other itemized deductions. To be of benefit your total itemized deductions have to exceed your standard deduction. Turbotax will optimize between them.
